Artist Statement

My studio started life as a pack house on a working farm in eastern North Carolina.  In the 70's, it became a clogging club complete with a concrete dance floor, dj booth, disco ball, and tiny little recessed booths that my husband and I like to invent risque stories about.  When I came across it, the floor on one side had fallen in, most of the windows had popped out or were broken, and termites had really enjoyed some of the larger beams.  It was dusty, moldy, and home to many small creatures.  Most of those things are still true, but we have managed to replace the floor and most of the windows.  It is hot as an LA Unified school bus in the summer, and it is cold as, well, it's really cold in the winter.  But I get to paint there, and sometimes my daughter paints there with me.  It's a place to get lost in creativity, and I'm grateful to have it.

I hope that you enjoy viewing my paintings.  They are of faces, places, and things that make me happy just to look at them.

Recycling is very important to me.  I have experimented on and off with using recycled materials in making new, useful items including baby blankets, children's clothing, and jewelry.  My current recycled materials interest lies in crafting flower jewelry including necklaces and hair pieces.

My writing has been a constant since I can remember.  Currently, I am enjoying working on an MFA in poetry.  I have begun blogging about writing, crafts, and all of the things that I find important and interesting.  Check it out, and thanks for reading!
